The Bundesnotarkammer (hereinafter referred to as “BNotK” or “we”) takes the protection of your personal data, e.g. information on personal or factual relationships of an identified or identifiable natural person, very seriously. In this privacy policy, we would like to inform you in detail on the data we process when you use our website as well as on the purposes of their processing.

3. Processing of personal data

The collection, processing and use of your personal data is made in strict compliance with the provisions laid down in the European General Data Protection Regulation (EU) No. 2016/679 (hereinafter referred to as “GDPR”). When you visit our website, personal data is therefore only collected, processed and used to the extent that is permitted by law. This also applies to the transfer of your personal data. The processing of your personal data is carried out exclusively in our data centres located in Germany.

a) Usage data

Each time you visit our website, your web browser transfers the following data:

  • IP address
  • Session Key
  • Date and time of access authorisation
  • SSL request line from the client
  • Status code output by the server
  • Size of the response to the client (in bytes)
  • Referrer URL
  • User agent

We process these usage data in order to make our website accessible to you, to identify and rectify any technical problems that may occur as well as to prevent and, if necessary, track any misuse of our services.

The legal basis for the processing of your usage data for the Bundesnotarkammer are Article 6 (1) lit. e GDPR, Section 3 Federal Data Protection Act (Bundesdatenschutzgesetz; BDSG) and Section 78 (1) no. 1 Federal Code for Notaries (Bundesnotarordnung; BNotO).

All IP addresses are anonymised in the log files every 24 hours; these are retained for 7 days and then deleted.

b) Integration of videos through Vimeo

Our website uses a plugin from the video platform Vimeo to embed videos and play them directly on our website. The operator of the video platform is Vimeo.com, Inc, 330 West 34th Street, 10th Floor, New York, New York 10001, USA ("Vimeo").

When you activate embedded videos on our website, a connection to the Vimeo servers is established and a data transfer is started. We have no influence on the scope and content of the data that is transmitted to Vimeo and possibly other Vimeo partners by activating the video. Vimeo uses cookies to collect information about user behaviour. The cookies remain on your end device until you delete them. You can prevent Vimeo from saving cookies by making the appropriate settings in your browser software. The embedded Vimeo video player uses the following cookies:

Due to the embedding of the video player on our website, only the Player_iclearance, Cf_iclearance, _cf_bm and _cfuvid cookies are set as these cookies are considered essential for the secure operation of the player.

The use of Vimeo only takes place with your consent on the legal basis of Art. 6 para. 1 lit a) GDPR. You are free to give this consent and to withdraw it at any time. The revocation will only apply to the future and does not affect processing that took place before the revocation.

With regard to the level of data protection in the USA, the EU Commission has issued an adequacy decision on the EU/US Data Privacy Framework (DPF), which certifies that the USA has the same level of data protection as the European Union. In particular, security measures have been included that restrict access by US authorities or authorities from other countries. This adequacy decision relates to certified companies that are listed in this DPF. Vimeo is listed in the directory of the Data Privacy Framework Programme of the U.S. Department of Commerce (as of 12.12.2024). The legal basis for the processing of your usage data for the Bundesnotarkammer are Section 25 (1) Law on data protection and privacy in telecommunications and digital services (Gesetz über den Datenschutz und den Schutz der Privatsphäre in der Telekommunikation und bei digitalen Diensten; TDDDG), Article 6 (1) lit. a GDPR and Section 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG, Article 6 (1) lit. e GDPR, Section 78 (1) no. 1 BNotO.


4. Transfer of your personal data to third parties

Your personal data will only be transferred to emfITs GmbH, Am Schinderwasen 3, 89134 Blaustein, which is responsible for the creation, hosting and maintenance of the website and must provide sufficient contractual guarantees to implement appropriate technical and organisational measures in order to ensure the protection of your personal data in accordance with Article 28 GDPR.
